Frequently Asked Questions

The Basics

What is Walk for Hope?

Walk for Hope is the signature event of the Center for Pediatric Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). Patients, families and friends will meet at Citizens Bank Park for a 2K walk on Sunday, June 9, 2024, to honor IBD fighters, celebrate the innovative research at CHOP and participate in family-fun activities including crafts, character appearances, games, a basket sweepstakes and silent auction.

How Does it Work?

  • Register: Start your team or join a team by visiting the Walk for Hope registration page.
  • Get set: Once you’ve signed up, you can personalize your fundraising page. Participants with custom pages raise twice as much as those with the standard text!
  • Recruit your squad: Gather your friends, family, neighbors – anyone that you want to support your efforts.
  • Raise funds: Dollars raised through Walk for Hope fund breakthroughs in IBD research and care for children at CHOP. Fundraising is open until Friday, June 30, 2024.
  • Celebrate: Join us on Sunday, June 9, 2024,  at Citizens Bank Park to celebrate you, your team and the IBD patients we fight for every day!

A virtual participant will create a personal mileage goal that is meaningful to their IBD patient’s journey. For example, 45 miles for a child’s 45 infusions or 192 miles for 192 days of treatment. Participants can choose their activity (running, walking, biking) to best fit their schedule while still showing their support to find a cure for children with IBD!

What does my registration include?

Is there a limit to how many people can be on my team?

Fundraising

Where do the funds go from Walk for Hope?

Dollars raised fund breakthrough IBD research and care for children at CHOP — and around the globe! Learn more about these studies.

Do I need to fundraise on top of my registration fee?

Fundraising is not required, but every dollar will help us fund breakthrough research and innovative care at the CHOP Center for Pediatric IBD. Learn how to fundraise for Walk for Hope.

What are the responsibilities of the team captain?

Team captains customize the team page, recruit team members, motivate them to fundraise and share event details with the team. Team captains will determine where their dollars are designated: IBD, VEO-IBD or Microbiome research. Some team captains go above and beyond and create team T-shirts or organize a team fundraising event!

How do I start fundraising?

Check out our Fundraising Tips page. Want to brainstorm further? Contact us at walkforhope@chop.edu.

Am I able to designate my fundraising dollars to a specific area within IBD?

Yes! You can select to designate to IBD research, VEO-IBD or Microbiome research.

Can I create a T-shirt fundraiser to help raise funds for Walk for Hope?

Yes! CHOP is partnering with Bonfire to give participants a free and fun way to fundraise with your Walk for Hope team. Teams and individuals can design and sell their own shirts. Wear them at the event – or anytime you’d like! After your T-shirt fundraiser ends, 100% of the proceeds can be added to your DonorDrive fundraising page. It’s a win-win to raise your team’s spirits, spread your message of hope and support kids with IBD!

What should we do with cash donations made to our team?
